Back in April I presented a paper at the Cambridge OCW conference which attempts to develop a theoretical foundation for OER. I assumed that to be a quite challenging task because most of my theoretical underpinning came from a context that is rather unfamiliar to an English audience. This context is German Idealism and the theory is referred to as Bildung that has produced highly elaborated accounts of individual development and maturation in both formal and informal contexts.
My talk which can be watched online here introduces this concepts and illustrates how it can be utilized to facilitate a more balanced understanding of Open Education and provides insight into an unconventional descriptive theoretical framework that reflects broader concepts than conventional learning theories.
